Sea Wall in St. Pete Beach

A closer look at a favorite spot

by J. Matt Buchanan

I've been setting up my gear on an old seawall on Upham Beach in St. Pete Beach, Florida for years. Despite having shot countless sunsets and pelicans from this spot, I always look forward to heading back.

I spent part of the last day of 2014 — my birthday — on the wall. I didn't have my dSLR or tripod with me, but this turned out to be a good thing. Only having my iPhone, I was able to wedge myself between a few rocks to get a close look at the amazing textures and colors of the wall itself.

This shoot will always remind me to stop and take another look at my surroundings when shooting. There's always another shot to be had.
